Korean television sitcoms have been popularizing a lot recently, especially those belonging to the romance genres. People across the world are fans of the love stories Korea narrates and keep waiting for a new one. One such television show was Cheese In The Trap. It is a television show that is based on a webtoon that aired from 2010 to 2016. The story revolves around a high-school student, Yoo Jung living a “perfect” life who comes across his junior in school, Hong Seol, and starts taking interest in her. 

It unfolds into discovering the various layers of Yoo Jung’s character, who is perceived as a pleasant person but later we discover how he manipulates people and even destroys them for his selfish motives. As mentioned previously, the series is a Romantic Drama that revolves around the life of Yoo Jung and his love story with Hong Seol. The show has been helmed by Lee Yoon-jung and has been written by Kim Nam-hee and Go Sun-hee. It is based on the South Korean manhwa named Cheese in the Trap that was illustrated by Soonkki. 

The show stars Park Hae-jin, Kim Go-eun, Seo Kang-joon, and Lee Sung-kyung in important roles. It has been produced by Kim Keo-hong and Jung Se-ryung and its executive producers are Park Ho-sik, Kang Hoon, Kim Won-ju, Yang Hwan-chul, and Hyunwoo Thomas Kim. The companies involved in its production were Eight Works, Kross Pictures and PGood Media. 

Cheese in the Trap is a South Korean series that was originally made in Korean, dubbed in other languages, and then released across the world. It was primarily aired on tvN. The first season of the series premiered on 4 January 2016 and the last episode of the first season aired on 1 March 2016. It had 16 episodes.  

Plot:

The story revolves around Yoo Jung who is a rich and popular student at the University and has a lot of friends. Everybody thinks of him as a very pleasant person who is extremely kind to people around him and always ready to help. However, he deceives people with his words and is actually a cunning person who gets annoyed when someone comes in his way (metaphorically) and is eager to destroy them.

Hong Seol is a gorgeous young girl who goes to the same University and gets Yoo Jung’s scholarship. She is junior to him at the University and is approached by Yoo Jung, to her surprise. He asks her for a date and the two get into a romantic relationship. The relationship is an unstable one and quite troubled due to the deceptive faces of Yoo Jung.

Starcast:

Park Hae-jin essayed the role of Yoo Jung, who is the protagonist of the show, and the character of Hong Seol, who is the junior of Yoo Jung was played by Kim Go-eun. Seo Kang-joon essayed the role of Seo Kang-joon who is a pianist and Lee Sung-kyung played the role of Baek In-ha. Kim Hee-chan essayed the role of Hong Joon who is the younger brother of Seol and Ahn Gil-kang played Seol’s father, Hong Jin-tak. Yoon Bok-in essayed the role of Seol’s mother, Kim Young-hee.

Park Min-ji essayed the role of Jang Bo-ra, who is Seol’s best friend. Nam Joo-hyuk played the role of Kwon Eun-taek, who is in love with Jang Bo-ra. Ji Yoon-ho played the role of Oh Young-gon, who falls for Seol. Yoon Ji-won essayed the role of Son Min-soo, who admires Seol and tries to copy her. Moon Ji-yoon played the role of Kim Sang-cheol and Kim Hye-ji played the role of Lee Da-young. 

Cha Joo-young played the role of Nam Joo-yeon, and Yoon Ye-joo essayed the role of Kang Ah-young. Oh Hee-joon featured in the role of Ha Jae-woo, and Go Hyun essayed the role of Kim Kyung-hwan. Shin Joo-hwan played the role of Min Do-hyun, and Lee Woo-dong essayed the role of Heo Yoon-sub. Hwang Seok-jeong featured in the role of Professor Kang and Kim Jin-keun essayed the role of Professor Han.

When Will Cheese In The Trap Season 2 Be Released?

The first season of the series was received warmly by its audience and they have been waiting desperately for the release of its second season. There has been no official statement from the makers of the show about them working on the second season. Some sources suggested that the makers have been in a conversation with the network for the renewal of the show but the process got delayed due to the covid pandemic. If the rumors are to be believed, the second season can be expected by the end of 2021 or in the initial months of 2022.
