Netflix’s first venture into Korean Drama resulted in Love Alarm. Love Alarm, or Joahamyeon Ullineunis, as it is called in Korean, is a romantic drama based on a web-comic of the same name. The webtoon was created by Cheon Kye Young. The first season of the show was released on Netflix on 22 August 2019.
In the center of the show are the themes of love, personal demons, and, of course, technology. The show is set in a world where a very interesting app is available to all people. The application is called Joalarm. It alerts the user when there is a person in a 10m radius who is romantically attracted to him or her.
The female lead of the show is high school student Kim Jo Jo. While she is a very cheerful person, she has a personal tragedy that still haunts her. She lost her parents when she was young. As a result, she has to live with her aunt, which is not exactly a treat. Perhaps the exact opposite of it. She does not use the app. Also studying at the same school as she is Hwang Sun Oh.
He comes from a very rich family, although they are not affectionate with him. He is very popular at school. His closest friend is Lee Hye Young. In the beginning, it was Lee Hy Young who liked Kim Jo Jo, but Hwang Sun Oh also begins to like her and this causes a rift between the two best friends.
It is this love triangle that makes the series very interesting. How technology or the Joalarm app works in the story is a real catch and adds layers to the story. Love Alarm received mostly positive reviews from the viewers. It was one of Netflix’s biggest hits of 2019.
