The Orville is a sci-fi action-adventure series that sets in space in which the story revolves around the crew of the USS Orville spaceship. It is inspired by top-grossing shows such as Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, and Next Generation.

The Orville released two seasons, the first season which aired on Fox in 2017–2018 followed by the critically acclaimed second season on Fox in 2018–2019. Overview of The Orville Seasons

The Orville follows the crew of the titular spacecraft: USS Orville (ECV-197) that faces the dangers and adventures in the 25th-century interstellar Planetary Union of Earth with other planets in the universe. It shows the wonders of outer space and a few planet explorations or visits.

As each standalone episode unfolds, fans are getting to know each Orville crew and their everyday lives. The second season focuses more on the crews meeting aliens from other planets. The crew discovers more secrets unfolding in some races and introduces the planet Moclus.

With the third season coming, MacFarlane has stated that the same setup for standalone episodes is still on, however, fans can expect some continuity on stories of some crews of the infamous USS Orville.

The Orville Cast and Characters

The Orville Casts are the crew of the titular spacecraft: USS Orville (ECV-197). The main casts have stayed the same from season 1 to season 2 as led by Seth MacFarlane as Captain Ed Mercer. 

Aside from him, fans are ought to expect several main casts to come back on our screens including Adrianne Palicki as Commander Kelly Grayson, Captain Ed’s ex-wife, Penny Johnson Jerald as Doctor Claire Finn, Orville’s chief medical officer, Scott Grimes as Lieutenant Gordon Malloy, Peter Macon as Lieutenant Commander Bortus, J. Lee as Lieutenant John LaMarr,  Mark Jackson as Isaac, Jessica Szohr as Lieutenant Talla Keyali, Anne Winters as Charly Burke and so many more.

Although Lieutenant Alara Kitan as portrayed by Halston Stage left in season 2, executive producer David Goodman and the other production crew are looking for ways to bring her back to the storyline.

The Orville Episodes

The Orville’s episodes since the first season are standalone. However, with the third season coming, Seth MacFarlane is dropping hints of continuity and let the show’s fans expect more dramatic and exciting action-based narratives.

The first season which was aired on Fox from September 10 to December 7, 2017, ran for twelve episodes while the second season which was broadcasted on Fox from December 30, 2018, to April 25, 2019, consists of fourteen episodes.

Two seasons were aired on Fox, while the forthcoming season is set to be aired at Hulu. Moreover, you can watch the series in Disney + under the Star brand. 

The Orville Series Development

The people behind the adventure-packed series include the show’s main cast, Seth MacFarlane. MacFarlane wrote ‘The Orville’ as a speculative script meant to be a non-commissioned and unsolicited screenplay with thirteen episodes.

Seth MacFarlane successfully broadcasted the series on Fox with twelve episodes, thirteenth was held for season two as the show was renewed by Fox. 

Due to the second season’s success, the third season is potential to air in late 2021.

 

The Orville Season 3 Release Date

With the third season set to premiere on Hulu in late 2020, production of the series was put on hold due to the COVID 19 pandemic. However,  Seth MacFarlane is determined to release the third season in late 2021 on its new home, Hulu.

Season 3 is set to release with 11 episodes that will run for 12 to 15 minutes more of airtime than the previous seasons. It will be directed by both Seth MacFarlane and Jon Cassar. With the production getting pushed back schedule, MacFarlane is still adamant to let the fans of the show that The Orville Season 3 will surely happen.

Things You Need to Prepare for The Orville Season 3

With the COVID 19 pandemic going on globally, Hollywood has taken preventive measures by shutting down Hollywood which affected many ongoing series including The Orville third season. Its tentative return will be in late 2021.

The Orville Season three have decided to switch networks from Fox to Hulu where avid fans can expect this to be a good thing for more episodes and production air time.
