Controversy
Season one of the Hunters faced criticism from the Auschwitz Memorial Museum, which held the former concentration camp. The controversy was based on using Auschwitz for the fictional element within the story that depicted a human game of chess in the show. The memorial then tweeted that “Auschwitz was full of horrible pain & suffering documented in the accounts of survivors, Inventing a fake game of human chess for @huntersonprime is dangerous, foolishness & caricature. It also welcomes future deniers. We honor the victims by preserving factual accuracy.”
In the response, the show’s creator concluded in a statement that the indulgence of chess was to represent the actual and the hurtful position people were in.
