Daniel Lawrence Whitney was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska, US on the 17th day of February 1963. He is the son of Tom Whitney Sr., a Christian minister, guitarist, and entertainer. 

He had his studies at The King’s Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida whom his father served as a principal. After a few years, he transferred to Berean Christian School and graduated in 1982. Apparently, he had given up on his studies before he even started his senior year in order to chase after his dream of becoming a comedian. 

In Whitney’s early twenties he already began exploring with his acts on his stand-up comedy at West Palm Beach clubs.

It was in the year 2000 that Larry’s big break came. His friend Jeff Foxworthy who is also a fellow comedian invited him to join Blue Collar Comedy Tour together with another comedian Bill Engvall. It was a huge success and even sold a million copies after being released as a live comedy DVD. 

The tour opened up new doors for him in his career for he launched his first two comedy albums shortly after. Debuting with “Lord, I Apologize” in 2001 and followed by “The Right to Bear Arms’ ‘ in 2005. Both were huge successes and were even certified gold by the RIAA. 

In the same year, he also released an autobiographical book “Git-R-Done”. Then a year later, brought his famous Larry the Cable Guy character to the national big screen with the title “Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector”.
