Who is Lynn’s father?
James Garland Quintel is an animator, voice actor, director, writer, producer, and storyboard artist from the United States. He is best known for his work on the HBO Max series Close Enough (2020-2022), where he voices Josh, and the Cartoon Network series Regular Show (2010-2017), where he created Mordecai and High Five Ghost.
Quintel worked as a writer and storyboard artist on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, which aired on Cartoon Network from 2008 to 2010. (2006–2008). In 2009, he was nominated for an Annie Award for directing an episode of Flapjack. In 2011, he was nominated for an Emmy for Regular Show in the Outstanding Short-format Animated Program category.
Garland, James Quintel was born in Hanford, California, to Terri and James Allen Quintel. Hanford’s topography is “sort of flat,” and there “wasn’t a ton to do” when he was growing up, so he and his friends were always looking for ways to entertain themselves; he eventually incorporated these types of escapades into Regular Show.
He eventually worked with Joe Murray and was influenced by Matt Groening, Mike Judge, and Joe Murray, among others. Quintel began drawing and watching cartoons as a teenager, including The Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, Rocko’s Modern Life, and The Ren & Stimpy Show, as well as British surreal comedy series such as The League of Gentlemen and The Mighty Boosh, which would later serve as inspiration for his art.

After passing a test and receiving her diploma, Quintel was hired as a storyboard revisionist for Cartoon Network’s Camp Lazlo. Quintel was one of six judges for the third annual Nick toons Network Animation Festival, announced by Nick toons Network in May 2006. The 30th anniversary of Spike & Mike’s Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation featured Quintel’s short film 2 in the AM PM.
Halloween night finds two slackers operating a convenience store/gas station alone at 2 in the AM PM, where candy laced with drugs turns the night into a mini-nightmare. Some of these two characters later appeared in Regular Show, thanks to Quintel.
By March 2012, Quintel was in charge of a team of about 35 people who collaborated to create each episode of Regular Show, which takes about nine months from conception to completion. Quintel most recently worked on Regular Show episodes at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California, lending his authentic voice to the show’s 23-year-old blue jay character Mordecai. Quintel discussed his voice acting, stating that he has a laid-back personality and never yells in real life, so he had to learn how to cry like Mordecai.
