Who is Irene Bejach?

Irene Bejach was a Jewish refugee together with her sister Helga Bejach. The two of them were orphaned by the war.

In 1939, the Attenboroughs took the two kids and let them live in College House. Irene Bejach was 11 years old during that time and her sister was only 9 years old.

After several months of living with the Attenboroughs, the family decided to formally adopt them.

Irene Bejach’s adoptive father was Frederick Levi Attenborough. He was born on April 4, 1887, in Nottinghamshire, England.

Frederick was a principal and British academic of University College, Leicester.

From 1932 to 1951, Frederick was the principal of University College. This allowed him and his family to live on campus in College House.

During the Second World War, Frederick and his family took in two Kindertransport Jewish refugee kids named Irene and Helga.

Under the guidance of Frederick, the University College grew in reputation and size. Eventually, in 1957, it became the University of Leicester.

On March 20, 1973, Frederick died in Wandsworth. He was 85 at the time of his death.

One of Irene’s Adoptive Brothers is Sir David Frederick Attenborough. David is an English author, natural historian, biologist, and broadcaster.

David was born in Isleworth, Middlesex on May 8, 1926. He grew up in College House together with his family.

David is best known for presenting and writing the nine natural history documentary series called the “Life Collection”. David rose in popularity after he hosted a TV show called Zoo Quest in 1954.

His job as a narrator, presenter, and writer has spanned 80 years. This includes The Blue Planet, Wildlife on One, and Natural World.

For many years, David has accumulated a lot of awards and honorary degrees. This includes 3 Emmy awards for Outstanding Narration.

Who are Irene Bejach’s Other Adoptive Brothers?

Aside from David, Irene had two other adoptive brothers. Their names were Richard Samuel Attenborough and John Michael Attenborough.

Richard was an English entrepreneur, filmmaker, and actor. He was born on August 29, 1923. He’s the eldest of the siblings.

Richard was the president of the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and TV Arts) and RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art).

During the second world war, Richard joined the Royal Air Force and served in the film unit. He filmed the action from the rear gunner’s position.

Richard entered the hospital with heart issues in August 2008. He was fitted with a pacemaker during that time. Unfortunately, he died at the age of 90 on August 24, 2014.

Irene’s other adoptive brother was John Michael Attenborough. He was born on January 1, 1928. He was an executive of Alfa Romeo and a financial advisor.

However, unlike his brothers, John kept his life private. Thus, there is nothing much to learn about him.

John was diagnosed with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). On November 9, 2012, John died at his home. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.
