Given directed by Hikaru Yamaguchi was very well received by anime fans when it was first released in 2019, with an IMDB rating of 8.4. The anime soon garnered a lot of attention due to its realistic portrayal of the popular genre of ‘Boy’s Love’. The anime is an adaptation of the ongoing manga, written by Natsuki Kizu. This anime has been prepared by Lerche studios, which has successfully produced animes such as ‘Astra lost in space’ and ‘Toilet bound Hanako- kun’ previously.
The series focuses on an amateur rock band consisting of four members and the budding relationship among them. The series frames the romantic relationships between vocalist Maheyu Sato, electric guitarist Ritsuka Uenoyama, and between drummer Akihiko Kaj and bassist Haruki Nakayama. The storyline of the anime is divided into two narratives focusing on the relationship between Matuya and Ritsuka and their first live performance which turns out to be a huge success. The second narrative follows the relationship between Akihiko and Haruki and their first music festival.
The story unfolds when high schooler and guitarist Ritsuka Uenoyama invites Mafuyu to join the band after coming to the realization that Mafuyu is an exceptional singer. On the other hand, Hikaru gets involved in his secret romantic feelings for Akihito who on the other hand is in a relationship with his ex-boyfriend Ugetsu Murata. The story takes a steep turn as tension builds between the characters.
The Probable plot twist of Given Season Two
The first season of the spectacular anime series was followed by a movie in August 2020 and a live-action version of the same. While the first season focused mostly on the relationship between Mafuyu, and Ritsuka the movie narrated the growing romance between Hikaru and Akihito.
Although the plot of a possible season two has not been confirmed, it is most likely going to be based upon Hiiragi and Shizusumi’s relationship which is the third narrative of the ongoing manga. Though it’s onerous to predict the plot of a season that is yet to be released. We believe that it’s going to be equally exquisite and praise-worthy. All eleven episodes of the first season have been full of excitement and we are sure it will be the same for season two as well.
Chances of Season two
‘Given’ is still not updated with season two as of the moment. Since the manga is still ongoing and a new arc has been unfolded, we can be hopeful that there is going to be a possible season 2, however slim the chances may look. After gaining massive success, the renewal of the anime is still on hold. We believe that the anime will come back with an equally moving season 2, once enough source material is available.
The Lerche animation team and the manga’s publishers have remained silent on this particular topic. But we know the Given manga is of six volumes and the sixth volume has been published recently in August 2020. The first season is based on the first 15 chapters of the Manga collection and the movie consists of the 28th chapter of the series, which is the end of volume five. There are six volumes in total that have been released and we have hope that once enough material is there ‘Given season two’ will be aired.
When is Given Season Two expected to release
There has been no talk of a possible season two as of this writing. Even though there’s hope, it is not going to be any time soon. Fans can expect it to be released during late 2022 or early 2023. It’s still a rough prediction since no official news has been disclosed. It is just a matter of time before fans can see their favorite characters once again.
Considering the fact that 100k followers are the threshold in twitter for any Anime series to have a second season, ‘Given’ has 200k followers on Twitter. This fanbase shows the popularity of the anime’s first season.
Fan base opinion:
‘Given is probably one of the best adaptations of a Boy’s Love Manga out there’, says a fan and we think it can’t be any more appropriate to say about this Anime series. This is an eye-opening series that has broken the shackles of stereotypes in the best way possible. Fans love how the anime has patiently weaved the bonds between the characters and has altered eroticism with the purest form of Gay romance. According to fans, “There is something about ‘Given’ that has immediately struck me.”
Though this anime does not have any big distributors like Netflix, the financial stability that the production team has received through live-action, stage play, and from the movie should be sufficient to bring out another desired season of ‘Given’.
